Riversharks Blank York
The Riversharks earned a shutout victory over the York Revolution at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Monday evening, winning 5-0.
Kevin Mannix, who was signed by Camden on the day of the game, threw five scoreless innings in his first start of the year, to pick up his first decision. He's now 1-0 on the year, with Newark and two separate stints with the Riversharks.
Starter Dave Gassner also had a shutout going through five, but he allowed a run in the sixth, before being pulled for Chris Britton, and took the loss as a result. Gassner is now 3-7.
Camden scored all five of its runs in the sixth and seventh innings, and got production from each part of its lineup in doing so. In the sixth, Jose Leon and Jon Knott led off with consecutive singles, and then Junior Spivey hit a hard ground ball down the left field line, that scored Leon. It would prove to be the game-winning hit, and put the 'sharks in front after six, 1-0.
Then, in the seventh, Wayne Lydon led off with a bunt single and stole second base (his league-leading 29th steal of the year) before Chris Walker walked to put two men on for Bryant Nelson. Nelson ripped an RBI single into right field to score Lydon, and double Camden's lead.
But the big blow of the game came two batters later, off the lumber of Jon Knott. Knott crushed a ball to deep left-center field and over the wall for his third home run of the season, one which scored Walker and Nelson, and gave the 'sharks their final three runs of the game.
Tim Bittner (6th and 7th), Chris Shaver (8th), and Felix Rodriguez (9th) combined to pitch the final four innings of the game, and maintain the shutout.
The win was Camden's thirty-first of the season, and kept the 'sharks a half-game back of Bridgeport for third place in the Liberty Division. York drops to a league-worst 24-44 with the loss.
The two teams will be back at it tomorrow night, once again at Sovereign Bank Stadium. Tom Davey (7-2, 2.42) will be on the hill for the 'sharks, and he'll face Shane Youman (0-2, 4.23) of the Revolution. You can listen to every pitch by clicking on to www.redzonemedia.com.
