Riversharks Blank Patriots, 9-0
Snap 5 Game Road Skid
The Camden Riversharks defeated the Somerset Patriots 9-0 tonight, behind a strong pitching performance by starter Nate Bump. Bump pitched seven shutout innings, and allowed only one hit, while striking out four batters and improving his record to 3-1 on the season. Somerset’s Brian Adams (2-2) was charged with the loss, as he gave up seven hits and six earned runs in seven innings pitched.

Camden jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, as Chris Walker and Wayne Lydon started the game with back to back singles. Brett Bonvechio then drew a walk, loading the bases for shortstop Junior Spivey. Spivey crushed Adams’ 2-0 offering over the left field wall for his third homerun of the series, and gave the Riversharks a 4-0 lead.

The Sharks added to their lead in the fourth inning, as designated hitter Vito Chiaravolloti lead off with a solo homerun. The next three batters were retired in order, but the damage was done as Chiaravolloti’s long ball gave Camden a 5-0 lead.

The scoring continued for Camden in the 7th inning, as third baseman Brian Burgamy drew a leadoff walk, and then advanced to third base courtesy of a single by shortstop Kyle Haines. Two batters later, Walker stepped to the plate and hit a line drive to center field, scoring Burgamy and giving the Sharks a 6-0 lead.

Camden sent all nine batters to the plate and added 3 insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Closer Tracy Thorpe then entered the game to close the door on Somerset, and did so by retiring three consecutive batters, and ending the game with a final score of 9-0 in favor of the home team. With the win, the Riversharks climbed above the .500 mark and upped their record to 10-9. Somerset, meanwhile, fell to 9-9 on the season.

The Riversharks will be on the road for a three game series with the Long Island Ducks, beginning this Friday at 7:05 pm. They will return to Campbell’s Field on Monday, May 18th to open up a seven game home-stand against the York Revolution and the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.
