Powell's Effort Not Enough for 'Sharks
CAMDEN, N.J. --- Starter Greg Powell turned in a spectacular eight innings for the Riversharks, but the effort was not enough as Camden fell to the Newark Bears 2-1.

The ‘Sharks were the first to notch a run on the board, striking in the bottom of the first. With two outs Lino Connell smacked the ball to right for a stand-up double. Connell crossed the plate on an RBI single by Denny Abreu.

It wasn’t long before Newark answered back with a run of their own. Victor Valencia led off the third with a triple and then scored on a Jose Herrera single.

Greg Powell (4-9) pitched the ‘Sharks through eight innings, allowing just one run to cross the plate. On the night Powell scattered eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Aside from the third, Powell ran into trouble in the sixth, giving up back-to-back singles with one out. The inning ended with the score locked at one apiece as stellar defense backed Powell, turning a double play.

The score remained tied at one until the top of the ninth when the Bears got a run off reliever Chris Fussell. Victor Rodriguez reached on an error by Abreu and scored on a Valencia single.

The ‘Sharks continue their series versus the Newark Bears tomorrow night when the first 1,500 fans 16 and older will receive a License Plate Frame courtesy of Valero! After the game all kids are invited to run the bases sponsored by the Pop Shop!
