The Camden Riversharks, like every baseball team, have had some rough times in their 2012 campaign. This five-game stretch may be the toughest so far this season.

The Riversharks dropped Sunday’s series finale, 5-3, to the Sugar Land Skeeters, giving Camden their fifth straight loss. They were swept in a three-game series for the first time since the first week in May and have now lost seven of their last ten games.

Sugar Land (14-10, 43-51) got their first three-game sweep in franchise history and, as they did in the first two games, the Skeeters drew first blood in Sunday’s game. The Sharks never led in the series.

Josh Pressley led off the second with a double and moved to third on a fly out before scoring on a sacrifice fly from Steve Moss. Iggy Suarez followed up with a two-out double and scored on a Manuel Mejia single.
Chris Walker grounded out to score Lloyd Turner in the third and the Riversharks (10-13, 44-48) evened the game in the fifth when Paddy Matera scored on a throwing error by Moss.

Momentum looked to be swinging Camden’s way, but the bad luck continued in the eighth. Sure-handed Leo Rosales (1-1) pitched a scoreless seventh and retired the first two batters in the eighth but followed up with three straight hits.

A double by Josh Pressley kicked it off. He scored on an Aaron Bates single and Moss picked up his second RBI of the game with a double of his own to score Bates.

Alvin Colina singled home a run in the home frame, but the Sharks couldn’t get the equalizer. Sugar Land added a run in the ninth on a Bubba Bell RBI single to round out the scoring. The Sharks got Walker to the plate, representing the tying run, with two outs in the ninth but Saul Rivera was able to get him to bounce out to first to end the game.

The Riversharks get a much-needed off day Monday before heading on the road for three game sets in Somerset and Bridgeport. The Sharks return to Campbell’s Field on Monday, August 13, for a three game home series against the Bluefish.
