Pedro Feliz hit his second home run of the season to lead the Camden Riversharks over the Sugar Land Skeeters, 6-5, Monday night and even the series at Constellation Field.
The Skeeters (24-33) got on the board first. Octavio Martinez singled home Josh Pressley to open the scoring and Luis Figueroa skied a sacrifice fly to put the home team on top, 2-0.
That was all the offense Ricky Brooks would allow. Brooks (4-1) finished six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits.
The Riversharks (27-29) offense erupted for five runs in the third. Eduardo Perez led off the inning with a single and stole second during Steve Doetch’s at bat. After Doetsch struck out, Jake Eigsti knocked a single to plate Perez and get Camden on the board. The lineup turned over for Chris Walker, who scored Eigsti with a triple to tie the game.
Brian Burgamy, who has not wasted many RBI opportunities this season, drove in Walker with a single and gave Camden the lead and Feliz provided some insurance with his two-run blast to cap off the five-run frame.
Raul Padron doubled home Burgamy, who scored twice in the contest, in the eighth and Camden needed the insurance as Sugar Land made a late inning surge. Josh Pressley scored his second of the game in the eighth thanks to a triple from Ofilio Castro. Castro scored in the frame as well on a sacrifice fly from Steve Moss.
John Lujan got the call in the ninth and things got even tighter for the Riversharks. After retiring the first two men in the inning, Lujan walked Miguel Negron. Negron stole second base to get into scoring position for Jason Lane, who took advantage with an RBI double to make it a one-run game. Lujan walked the next batter to put the winning run on base but was able to get Castro to bounce out to second to end the game and get his 12 save of the season. It was his first save in 12 days and gets him back into sole possession of second place for saves in the Atlantic League.
The Riversharks have now taken two straight from Sugar Land and have split the first four games of the six-game set. They look to make it three-in-a-row Tuesday for game five. The win also pushed the Sharks into second place in the Liberty Division, five games behind Long Island.
Camden sits a half game above Southern Maryland, who comes to Campbell’s Field Thursday for a four-game series. It is the final matchup between the clubs for the first half. For ticket information, call 1-866-SHARKS-9, visit riversharks.com, or stop by the TD Bank Convenience Window.
