BRIDGEWATER, NJ -- Delwyn Young had a three-for-three debut down in Sugar Land, TX over a week ago. He missed the entire following week, including the Camden Riversharks five-game losing streak, with an illness. He made his second start of the season Thursday night.
Apparently, it's just that easy for him.
Young crushed two home runs to help the Rivershark get a 4-3 win in Thursday's rubber match with the Somerset Patriots at TD Bank Ballpark. Eduardo Perez added a solo home run of his own to give Camden, who hadn't hit a home run in August, pound out three jacks in the game.
Camden (12-14, 46-49) scored one run in each of their first four innings. Young had solo shots in the first and third, Perez's came in the fourth, and Lloyd Turner added a two-out RBI single in the second, scoring Perez. Turner had three RBI in the series.
Meanwhile Keith Weiser was shutting down the Patriots (11-16, 46-51) despite a couple of early jams. Somerset loaded the bases in both the second and third, but could only score one run on a sacrifice fly. Weiser (6-6) allowed just one run on four hits. He did walk four batters but struck out six.
The Patriots got runs in the seventh and eighth on an RBI ground out from Dan DeGeorge and solo home run from Corey Smith, who has three home runs in six games.
John Lujan gave up a couple hits in the ninth but was able to get a groundout from DeGeorge, who had the game winning hit Wednesday, to end the game. Lujan tied the league lead in saves with his 22 of the year.
The win gives Camden the series win and a 10-to-6 edge in the season series with the Patriots. The two teams play four more times this season; all at Campbell's Field.
The Riversharks continue their road trip Friday when they head to Bridgeport, CT to take on the Bluefish. It will be Camden's first game against a Liberty Division rival in the second half. Bridgeport then comes down to Camden for three games starting Monday. First pitch is 7:05 at Campbell's Field on Monday. Game Notes:
Pedro Feliz finished the game 0-for-4, snapping his 13 game hitting streak and 30-game on base streak.
Camden starters allowed five runs in 18 innings in the series.
Sean Green (3-4) made the start for Somerset, going six innings and allowing four runs on five hits (three solo home runs) with three walks and six strikeouts.
The Sharks were only retired in order once in the game.
Lloyd Turner took a pitch off the knuckles during a bunt attempt in the ninth inning. He was replaced by Paddy Matera at second base in the ninth.
Delwyn Young walked in his third plate appearance before finally being retired in his final at bat of the ball game. He had reached safely in each of his first nine plate appearances.
