McDonald Pitches Complete Game for Win

CAMDEN, N.J. --- On a blazing hot afternoon, Jon McDonald kept the Newark Bears bats cool by throwing a complete game, earning the win by a score of 6-1.
The big blow for the ‘Sharks came in the fifth on a three-run home run by Alejandro Freire, his fourth of the season. The Freire homer, which scored Lino Connell and Denny Abreu, gave Camden the lead 4-0. The first ‘Sharks run of the afternoon came in the second as Dwight Maness singled to drive in Denny Abreu, who lead off the inning with a walk.
McDonald’s complete game was his third on the year. On the day McDonald gave up one run on six hits while walking three and striking out three. The lone Newark run came in the ninth on a single by Victor Rodriguez to score Liu Rodriguez.
The ‘Sharks added two more runs in the eighth as Freire led the inning off with a single and scored on an error by pitcher Shaun Babula. Maness walked in the inning and scored on an RBI single by Randy McGarvey.
The ‘Sharks hit the road on Tuesday for a six-game road trip, starting with a three-game set in Somerset. The ‘Sharks will return home on Tuesday, August 8 as Hall of Fame Sportscaster Bill Campbell will be on hand to meet and greet fans! Great seats are available for the next home stand!
