Jason Bergmann Signed by Colorado Rockies

The Riversharks announced today that pitcher Jason Bergmann was signed by the Colorado Rockies organization. He will be joining the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, Triple-A affiliate of the Rockies.

“I am grateful to the Riversharks for giving me the opportunity to continue playing baseball,” said Bergmann. “I’m excited to move on, continue my career and hopefully return to the Major Leagues.”

Bergmann pitched in 22 games for the ‘Sharks and recorded a 0.81 ERA. He struck out 33 batters in 22.1 innings while only walking ten. Opponents were hitting just .145 against him.

The New Jersey native was originally an 11th round draft pick of the Montreal Expos in 2002 and played six seasons for the Washington Nationals. Bergmann has a career MLB record of 12-24. Prior to professional baseball, Bergmann played his college ball at Rutgers and is one of eleven all-time Rutgers baseball players to make the Majors.

Bergmann is the third Rivershark signed by a Major League affiliate this season. Felix Pie joined the Triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves and Billy Rice was signed by the Chicago White Sox organization.

The Riversharks are hosting the 2012 Atlantic League All-Star Game, presented by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, on Wednesday, July 11 at 7:05 p.m as well as a celebrity softball game presented by “Jaws Youth Playbook”.
