Tribute to Baseball Night
POSTED: 8/24/2012 by Danielle Forte
Join the Riversharks as they celebrate America’s favorite pastime with Tribute to Baseball Night on Saturday, September 8th at their 5:35 p.m. game against the Bridgeport Bluefish.
Historian Ted Knorr will showcase his Negro League Display Collections and historian Ira Wolins will raise attention to Paul "Country Jake" Stephens, who was a Negro league player and potential hall of famer. Stephens is buried in York, Pennsylvania under a plain and unassuming tombstone that simply lists his name, birth date and death date. Nothing indicates that he was an outstanding shortstop in his day and played on four championship-caliber teams from the 1920s and 1930s. He was voted into the York and Pittsburgh Halls of Fame but is not yet a member of the MLB Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.
As always, there will be a post-game fireworks spectacular and Kids Run the Bases presented by Hampton Inn.
